Snooty Ooty Tour

Summary

This tour takes in the vibrant city of Cochin, cooler areas of Wayanad and Ooty as well as two very different train journeys. You will then travel south to the Western Ghats Hills to discover this beautiful and diverse region, taking in stunning scenery, wildlife and the natural beauty of this region of Kerala.

Itinerary  

Day 1/2: You will be met at the airport and taken to your Cochin accommodation for one night and then be free to explore this vibrant harbour city.  

Day 3-4: Your driver will collect and drive you to Cochin train station for the journey to Calicut about 4 1/2 hrs. You will be met at the station and taken to Wayanad for your two night stay. In the morning your tour will take in Pookode Lake, Kuruva Island, Edakkal Caves and the river Pallavaram.

Day 5-6: After breakfast you will be driven to your hotel in Ooty leaving you free to visit Ooty Lake. The following day enjoy a trip on the Snooty Ooty Toy Train taking in the scenery as you travel, afterwards there is time to enjoy the amazing natural fauna and flora of Ooty Botanical Garden.

Day 7: Today you will be driven to Kodaikanal a 6 hour transfer time with an overnight stay.

Day 8-9: Drive today to Munnar, taking in the views and visiting gardens and waterfalls en route, followed by a day visiting the Hill Station, Echo point and a hillside tea plantation.

Day 10-12: After breakfast, start your journey to Thekkady where you will visit the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary and Spice Plantation. You can take a boat ride on the lake and look out for the wildlife on the shore line, take an evening wildlife walk or join a jeep safari.

  • Cochin

    The ancient capital of Kerala and known as the Queen of the Arabian Sea, with its large natural harbour it was the hub of the Eastern spice trade.  The folk-law museum covers the fascinating history of Kerala, go and see the Chinese fishing nets at Port Kochi or Mattancherry Dutch Palace in Ernakulam built c1545. The options are many dependant on your time in Kochi. Go and watch the traditional Kathakali dancers, arrive early to see them prepare and put on their exotic make up.  It is a vibrant and historic part of Kerala’s past and a perfect start to your holiday in Kerala.

  • Munnar

    Visit the Western Ghats Mountain Hill Ranges, the upper hill region of Munnar was formally a resort for the British Raj and benefitting of cooler clean air. The hill sides are covered with working tea plantations, many that you can visit and learn about the tea making processes.  Explore Eravikulam National Park the home to the beautiful Lakkam Waterfalls.  The many hiking trails have walks suitable for both novice and experienced walkers, you can join a Jeep Safari or hire a cycle to explore the region.

  • Thekkady

    Discover Thekkady, tucked between the towering Western Ghats and the Savannah grasslands, there are many activities to be explore. Visit the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, take a boat ride on the Periyar lake and watch the wild life on the shore line, you may be lucky to catch sight of heard of elephant taking a drink at the waters edge.  Visit one of spice plantations of the area or you can take a jeep safari or join a walking tour taking in the wildlife, lush scenery, and revitalising clean air of the region.

  • Ooty

    Ooty, also known as Udhagamandalam, is a hill station in the state of Tamil Nadu, in the centre is Lake Ooty which is surrounded by trees. The lake is a huge artificial expanse of water and you can hire a pleasure boat to explore. On the slopes of nearby Elk Hill you can visit the Rose Garden, home to over 2,000 varieties of roses. You can also visit the Botanical Garden which feature ferns, orchids and a prehistoric fossilized tree. The Snooty Ooty (toy train) travels up the hillside and you can enjoy the views as you climb.

    Whilst in Wayanad you will benefit from the cooler hill air. You can visit the Wayanad wildlife sanctuary set in the forested hill areas where you may sight elephants, tigers and leopards. In the Ambukuthi Hills to the south the Edakkal Caves contain ancient drawings some that date back to the Neolithic age.
