Honeymoon is the name that Babylonians gave to the month after a wedding. Folk law has it that it was the time when the bride’s father would give the groom all the mead he wanted. Mead is a honey beer while the Babylon calendar was a lunar calendar. Mead was supposed to have aphrodisiac qualities and aided fertilisation!
Today your dream honeymoon provides time to be together after the stresses and strains of wedding planning. It will be your first memorable moments as a married couple.
Honeymoons come in all shapes and sizes. To help you we have put together some advice when planning your dream honeymoon!
Planning your honeymoon
Do your research
First you need your dates, budgets and wish lists in place and then you can explore your options. Are you looking for a white sandy tropical beach, an action packed adventure, a closer to home get away or a trip of a lifetime?
Make sure you discuss what you both want from your honeymoon. If one of you wants to spend their time laying out in the hot sunshine whilst the other is hunting for elusive shade it is not going to be a great romantic start to married life.
Set your budget and Stick to it
Weddings and honeymoons can be very expensive but do not need to be. Set your budget accordingly, and remember there is nothing worse than arriving home from a fantastic holiday to find the enormous credit card bill on the door mat!
Time it right
You do not have to go on honeymoon immediately after the wedding. Sometimes it is better to wait a while, many suffer a post wedding “come down” and it is great to have something to look forward to in the coming months. Consider your planned location, a summer wedding in the UK will mean rainy season in many of the top holiday locations.
